Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

On 17 April 2019, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) approved the membership fo Fostering Education and Environment for Development, Inc. (“FEED”) Philippines. FEED’s Board approved the request for FEED to apply, in an effort to help positively influence how forests are cared for  in the Philippines, by learning from the best practices of other countries/regions around the world.

ForestsForAll-Forever-FSC-logoFSC member organisations and individuals are from all walks of life, and membership  gives them a seat at the decision-making table, allowing any member to become part of a vibrant international group of individuals and organizations among others, private enterprises, NGOs, international organizations, indigenous groups, and educational institutions working for the betterment of our forests and the livelihoods dependent on them; and all of whom share a common desire to improve the state of the world’s forests.

As FSC is at the cutting edge of responsible forest management worldwide, members are  kept up to date with the latest issues in certification and forestry, as well as have access to exclusive information about the global forest industry.

FSC WORKS TO TAKE CARE OF OUR FORESTS AND THOSE WHO RELY ON THEM: BY PROTECTING PLANT AND ANIMAL SPECIES, INDIGENOUS PEOPLES RIGHTS, FOREST WORKERS’ SAFETY, AND MUCH MORE.

FSC-Image-Impact.pngFSC achieves this through FSC certification, ensuring forests around the world are responsibly managed. Since the official birth of FSC in 1994, a lot has been accomplished, but, of course, there is always more to be done. Take a look at what was achieved in FSC’s first 20 years of growth. Currently, over 190 million hectares of forest are FSC certified, in over 80 countries worldwide.

As part of the FSC Global Strategic Plan 2015-2020, one of the main goals was to more than double the share of global forest-based trade to 20 percent. The implementation plan explains the steps that FSC is making in order to meet this goal. The work being done each and every day is contributing to said goal, and each year, is documented what we was achieved in the annual review.

Consultations on the “FSC Global Strategic Plan 2021–2026:  Delivering Forests For All Forever” will deliver the Objective, Strategic Pillars and Enabling Priorities covering 2021–2026. The preview document is available here: https://ru.fsc.org/preview..a-3405.pdf

About FSC

FSC is a global not-for-profit organization that sets the standards for what is a responsibly managed forest, both environmentally and socially.

When timber leaves an FSC-certified forest we ensure companies along the supply chain meet our best practice standards also, so that when a product bears the FSC logo, you can be sure it’s been made from responsible sources. In this way, FSC certification helps forests remain thriving environments for generations to come, by helping you make ethical and responsible choices at your local supermarket, bookstore, furniture retailer, and beyond.

We don’t set these standards alone. We consult with our global network of environmental, social, and economic members to ensure that forest standards represent everyone’s needs, from Indigenous Peoples to endangered animal species.
FSC members include some of the world’s leading environment groups (WWF and Greenpeace1), social organizations (the National Aboriginal Forestry Association of Canada), businesses (Tetra Pak and Mondi PLC) as well as forest owners and managers, processing companies, campaigners, and individuals like you.

FSC is also a member of the ISEAL alliance, a global association of social and environmental standards systems that includes Fairtrade, the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), and Rainforest Alliance.
