Ateneo Corporate Sustainability Conference (ACSC) “Plant a Seed” Program Grows their Sierra Madre Forest

1 May 2022, Siniloan, Laguna, Sierra Madre Mountain Range.  The Ateneo Corporate Sustainability Conference (ACSC) youth leaders have again carried out a successful fundraiser to bolster the upland forest they planted in 2021.

60 additional trees were planted on behalf of ACSC and donors, to continue their commitment to sustainability, climate change action and environmental and educational leadership; part of ACSC’s donation will be allocated to a FEED scholar in either the forestry, farming or fisheries sector.

ACSC contacted FEED in January 2022 to pursue their second fundraising drive for the environment:

“One of the fundraising initiatives for this project, which we would like to partner with you on, is entitled “Plant a Seed”. This initiative involves partnering with an organization wherein each participant of this initiative will have the opportunity to “plant” a tree by donating a certain amount.

Despite being a minor fundraiser in 2021, “Plant a Seed” was able to raise money and plant eighty-seven (87) trees. Given this feat, we would like to make Plant a Seed our principal fundraiser this 2022, by offering more types of donations and/or increasing marketing….

Since both of our organizations are advocates of leadership in the sustainable development, not only in terms of natural resources and environmental protection, but also of our local communities, we would like to partner up with you once again for this fundraising initiative.”

Thank you ACSC, May the Forest be with you all!

About ACSC

Businesses have always played an integral role in our society. Not only do they create goods
and services, but they also drive job creation, innovation, and economic development that aim to improve our lives and our future. However, this is often overlooked, with some businesses maximizing profit at the expense of society and the environment.

This is where CS comes in. CS is an approach that maximizes profitability through intentional
business practices that maximize long-term economic, social, and environmental value for its
stakeholders.

Maximum profit, minimized carbon footprint, and economic development — what’s not to love
about CS?

Through ACSC, we hope to instill this sense of responsibility and impart knowledge through the impactful learnings, experiences, and valuable relationships you will form in ACSC. Year after year, ACSC continuously strives to empower every batch of aspiring CS-oriented leaders to make conscious business decisions for an even more conscious society.

What is ACSC?

Ateneo Corporate Sustainability Conference (ACSC) is an event organized by the Ateneo
Management Engineering Association (Ateneo MEA). ACSC is a weeklong online conference
for Grade 9-12 students who are interested in learning about corporate sustainability (CS) and
how businesses can contribute to sustainable economic development in the Philippines.

What is CS?
Corporate Sustainability (CS) focuses on how businesses can create holistic impact and
maximize long-term economic, social, and environmental value. Businesses do not need to
sacrifice the well-being of society and the environment for profit. However, CS is not just a “nice to have” but rather should be at the core of every business.

In 2015, the Philippine government submitted to the United Nations the country’s commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The country committed to reduce its carbon emissions by 70 percent by 2030. The carbon dioxide reductions will come from the sectors of energy, transport, waste, forestry and industry.

FEED runs a number of Students and Volunteers for the Environment (SAVE)Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) – such as mangrove planting for coastal protection or ridge reforestation plantings; One Child, One TreeBio-Intensive Gardens (BIG) for nutrition in public elementary schools and other spaces; Climate Change Survival 101 and other LIVING LEGACY programs – customised environmental engagement activities for individuals and organisations interested in contributing to climate change adaptation efforts and greening critical areas such as watersheds, ridges, and reefs that all require rehabilitation.
