Laguna, Philippines — September 18, 2025. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our eco warriors from Cayuse Philippines Delivery Center, Inc. for their unwavering commitment to protecting the environment. Through their tree-planting activity held at the Sierra Madre mountain ranges in Siniloan, Laguna, they contributed to the fight against climate change by planting 100 Philippine native trees, including Balitbitan, Kupang, and Taluto. Their collective action serves as a reminder that every tree planted is a step toward a greener, more sustainable future.
“Illegal logging continues to threaten our forests,” says Forester Rey Lorida, “and while nature has the power to heal itself, she needs our help.” His words reflect a profound truth: the environment can recover, but only if we actively nurture it. Human intervention through reforestation, conservation, and responsible resource use is essential in accelerating the healing process. Without these efforts, natural regeneration may take centuries—or may never fully restore the lost balance. Trees, particularly native ones, play a vital role in restoring biodiversity, stabilizing soil, and providing habitats for countless species. As Forester Lorida reminds us, we are not separate from nature; we are its stewards and partners in survival.
This initiative is part of the ongoing “Ridge to Reef” program, which underscores the deep connection between upland forests and coastal ecosystems. What happens in the mountains affects the rivers, lakes, and seas below—meaning that protecting the ridges ensures the health of the reefs. Native trees such as Balitbitan, Kupang, and Taluto are vital in this ecological chain because they are well adapted to local conditions, support native wildlife, and prevent soil erosion. Their deep roots help stabilize watersheds, regulate freshwater flow, and reduce the risk of floods and sedimentation downstream. By focusing on native species, we preserve the genetic integrity of our forests and strengthen their resilience to climate change. The Ridge to Reef approach also promotes holistic conservation—uniting communities, corporations, and nature under one sustainable vision. Each planting activity, therefore, is not just an environmental act but a socio-ecological commitment that ties mountain dwellers and coastal communities together. It ensures that life continues to flow from the highlands to the seas, nourishing both ecosystems and livelihoods. In essence, the Ridge to Reef program embodies the interconnectedness of all living things.
We are deeply grateful to the local community who always stand by us in every reforestation mission. Special thanks to Forester Rey Lorida, Ms. Rose Bocado, and the UPLB Forest Guards for their tireless work in preparing the site and ensuring the success of the program. Our heartfelt appreciation also goes to the kitchen staff who fill our days with warmth and energy through their delicious home-cooked meals. We always look forward to the mouth-watering binalot after a long day of planting—it has truly become a tradition that nourishes both body and soul. Together, we move forward with gratitude and determination, ready for our next mission for Mother Earth.
