LANDBANK Fulfils Their Promise: “We Help You Grow”

Lank Bank of the Philippines Logo (LBP).png19 November 2016, Laguna-Quezon. On this day, 49 enthusiastic Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) Ermita – headquartered participants volunteered to personally donate and plant 200 indigenous Philippine Malaruhat (scientific name: Syzygium nitidum) trees, fulfilling in part the LBP’s promise to “help you grow” – a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event that took place at Siniloan, Laguna organised by FEED in collaboration with Living Legacy program partner University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).

Philippine Malaruhat (scientific name: Syzygium nitidum, family Myrtaceae).

Malaruhat “can grow up to 25 meters tall with a bole up to 60cm in diameter; these trees are typical to Southeast Asia (Philippines to New Guinea and the Caroline Islands) in habitats of dense, primary forest, and more open secondary formations, growing on well-drained soils at low to medium elevations”. Following the debrief by FEED Director of Partnerships Anne-Marie Mananquil Bakker,  UPLB Forester Ben Arizala presented the history of the Laguna-Quezon Land Grant (LQLG)  site, one of last remaining (9000 hectare) protected forests of the Philippines situated at the Sierra Madre Mountains – the country’s longest mountain range.  Forester Ben, VP, Operations Diane Penales, along with 10 foresters led the Land Bank tree-planters along with 10 UPLB foresters through the foothills to the planting site, where there was much merriment due to the 100 additional seedlings sponsored by Land Bank head of the Banking Operations Group (BOG) Corazon Gatdula. The occasion also marked the birthday of Mrs.Loida Rosario – all of which was captured in the Photo/Video Journal below.
