ABOUT SEALED AIR
Sealed Air started with two engineers and an idea for wallpaper.
In 1957, Alfred W. Fielding and Marc Chavannes set out to create a new wall covering by laminating two plastic sheets with air bubbles in between. Although their invention never caught on as interior decor, the two men discovered their new material’s light weight and insulating properties were very useful—first as greenhouse insulation and then as the packing material we now know as Bubble Wrap®. In 1960, Fielding and Chavannes founded Sealed Air Corporation with Bubble Wrap® as the company’s signature brand.
From the start, Bubble Wrap® was truly revolutionary both as a product and as a value proposition. It could reduce total packaging cost by using less material, reduce package size and weight, and reduce loss from damage. In other words, it promoted sustainability long before it was fashionable. To demonstrate its unique qualities and value, Sealed Air created special laboratories now known as Package Design and Development Centers. These labs also educated our sales force about things like shock and vibration protection and worked with our customers to create superior solutions. From our earliest days, we weren’t just selling products—we were consultants. Today, the concepts of consultative selling and value analysis are the platforms from which we innovate. The success of this approach has allowed us to become a company with over 25,000 employees serving customers in 175 countries.
Sealed Air on Sustainability
“The world is a better place because we’re here, and we’re going to prove it to you.
Our 2020 Sustainability Goals are specific and measurable targets around our mission and vision. These goals differentiate us because the work we do solves problems for our customers. Our packaging reduces damage in transit, our food packaging makes products last longer, and our hygiene innovations prevent the spread of disease.
We are at a critical time in history.
The massive convergence of sustainability, technology, and business has forced every company to change the way it approaches sustainability. Sealed Air views sustainability as a business imperative. Nearly everything we do for customers has a sustainability value in the world. Sustainability is a true business driver for Sealed Air that differentiates us in the industries we serve, and is integrated in our strategy as a knowledge based solutions provider.
Our sustainability vision is the same as our corporate vision: To Create A Better Way For Life.
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. At Sealed Air we are empowered to innovate. We are constantly thinking to innovate and improve, for people, the planet, forever.
Our 2020 Sustainability Goals are organized around 3 distinct pillars:
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. At Sealed Air we are empowered to innovate. We are constantly thinking to innovate and improve, for people, the planet, forever.”
