Plant, Pray, Repeat: Friends Plant for Life

February 6, 2021– Sierra Madre Mountain Range.  Planting in the Sierra Madres is always a fun experience, despite the challenges faced by many Students and Volunteers for the Environment (SAVE), one of FEED’s longest Living Legacy programs that started in the 2000s. Which is why SAVE participants often come back.  The fresh and cool mountain oxygen produced by the forest is life altering, especially during these difficult pandemic times.

The volunteers arrived in LQLG on a weekend waking up early on a weekend is already a sacrifice included in their good deeds for the environment. It is very moving to know that theres people like Hannah, Janine, Manuel and Rogelio that make a big effort to make the environment a better place for us. The 30 trees they planted will for sure grown and will be admired by the other people.

Planting trees with FEED create economic opportunities for the local communities upland. The Local community has a very important role in every tree planting program we have. It has made the community more aware that we need to take more care of our planet. And it made them realize that just a little help from a lot of people can make a big difference. It significally shows our love and care to our “KAPWA PILIPINO” and to the environment.

In 2015, the Philippine government submitted to the United Nations the country’s commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The country committed to reduce its carbon emissions by 70 percent by 2030. The carbon dioxide reductions will come from the sectors of energy, transport, waste, forestry and industry.
