April 25, 2014, UP Los Baños. Mrs. Ofelia M. Bakker, President/CEO of FEED-Philippines (Fostering Education & Environment for Development) was the Institute of Biological Sciences’ (IBS) guest of honor during its testimonial for its 2014 BS Biology Graduating Class last April 25, 2014. Also with her was Mrs. Cecille M. Dinglasan, FEED Treasurer.
IBS takes pride of having a summa cum laude (also the lone summa cum laude in the whole graduating class of UPLB), 2 magna cum laude and 24 cum laude among the 189 graduating students in this year’s testimonial.
Mrs. Bakker was introduced by Dr. Asuncion K. Raymundo, Professor Emeritus. The inspirational message of Mrs. Bakker focused on environmental awareness and consciousness.

During the occasion, two (2) graduating B.S. BIOLOGY FEED Scholars were also present. These scholars were the recipients of the last tranche of FOFI funds given to IBS while the management was still under the institute. They were:
Mr. Angelo A. Cortez (FEED Grantee for 2012-2013). His thesis is entitled “Effect of Copper Stress on Spore Germination and Accumulation in Pteris vittata L. (Chinese Brake
fern).
Mr. Dan Jacob Resurreccion (FOFI Grantee for 2012-2013). His thesis is entitled “Acanthogyrus sp. (Acanthocephala quadrigyridae) infecting Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in Samapaloc Lake, Laguna: a potential lead (Pb) biosink”.
