Tarlac High School Logo22 September 2012, Tarlac, Tarlac. In her capacity as President of the Tarlac National High School General Alumni Association (TNHS-GAAI), FEED Inc. Chairman, Mrs. Ofelia Bakker-Mananquil,  an alumnus of THS – celebrated the 110th anniversary of the Philippines’ oldest public school established by the Thomasites in 1902.  Around 500 THS Alumni and Tarlac officials were present during the event.

On behalf of the thousands of THS Alumni worldwide, the TNHS – GAAI announced the proposed development of an Alumni building as a home away from home for the Alumni to be able to convene, meet and establish a secretariat – to reconnect Alumni to their Alma Mater. The event triggered several spontaneous contributions from Alumni & friends in support of the building. The late General Carlos P. Romulo – one of the founding signatories of the United Nations Charter, Secretary of the UN General Assembly, Pulitzer Prize winner and advisor to General Douglas MacArthur in the liberation of the Philippines –   was an alumnus of TNHS, further inspiring the Alumni to ensure the continued legacy of the first public school.

Thanks to the encouraging efforts of the Tarlac High School Alumni Association, headed by Mrs. Ofelia Bakker-Mananquil (an alumnus of THS, also Chairman of FEED Inc), the THS Alumni Association announced the installation of the Philippines’ national hero and icon Dr. Jose Rizal at the Tarlac City premises.

In her welcome message to the Alumni, Mrs. Bakker explained how “it took a while before we could finalize the now sure installation of the Rizal bust as a donation to THS. The resin bust was designed and sculpted by the brilliant Philippine-US Scholar, Sir Tony Imao. And so here it is now being set-up as an inspiration to all THS students, teachers and alumni  thanks to THS Administrator Engr Rolando Carreon, Class 1978 who has worked at THS for more than 20 years.   It will be installed at the Ground Floor Lobby of  the original main THS building named ‘Diwa Ng Tarlac’. ”

Thanks to all THS faculty, family and friends for making this possible. May we always remember to inspire education & environmental preservation in all our endeavours.
