25 May 2018, Siniloan, Laguna & Glorietta, Makati. FEED was invited to join the Globe’s launch of “Time Please” in Glorietta Activity Center, Makati City.
“Time Please” is Globe’s volunteering program in partnership with Walt Disney Philippines, iVolunteer Philippines and Time-Please accredited organisations, running from May 25, 2018 to August 20, 2018.
Time Please is a nationwide volunteering program, inviting Filipinos and non-locals to join in groups to attend and accumulate volunteering hours with the partner organisations. Each group members should register in the http://www.timeplease.ph portal and each group will get a chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Hong Kong Disney Land.
Time Please was introduced by Globe’s CEO, Ernest Cu, and told that the company is gearing towards expanding Globe’s Purpose into a higher one, in the saying “In everything we do, we treat people right to create a Globe of good”. The CEO acknowledges the different problems that the country has, which is why they spearheaded this collaboration and allow individuals to give time and help solve these problems. The launch was followed by another launch of a new app, and a number of acting, singing and dancing acts from several Disney characters including the iconic Mickey Mouse which left big smiles on everyone’s faces.
FEED is one of the accredited Time-Please organizations. Registered groups can attend to one or more of FEED’s programs to accumulate volunteering hours. It’s exciting to see new groups to join our programs.
On the same day, the FEED team led by Diane Penales, VP of Operations, together with Globe volunteers, FEED’s Student and Volunteers for the Environment (SAVE) and the Mondo Project team led by its co-founder Rejina Balangot, went ahead to the southern part of Sierra Madre mountains to plant 220 indigenous trees to help restore the Philippines’ natural protective barrier against incoming typhoons.

The activity started with Forester & Forest Guardian Rey Lorida, Manager of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) Laguna-Quezon Land Grant, conducting orientation for the 45 individuals who planted the trees. “Mayroon tayong batas na ang mga pilipino na may edad na labing dalawa pataas ay kailangang magtanim ng sampung puno kada taon” one of the statements that he mentioned in the orientation that struck and calls the attention of the audience. Most Filipinos might not know of this and it is important that such awareness is being brought up so that everyone can help restore our declining biodiversity.
After the orientation, Penales asked everyone to bring along garbage bags, so that anyone who could spot any trash while on the trek can pick it up and help maintain the forest cleanliness and demonstrate to the local community environmental stewardship & action.
At the site, a demo was conducted by the foresters on how to properly debag, handle the roots and plant the seedlings. After almost two hours of planting, the group was able finish all 219 seedlings and trekked back to base camp to rest, freshen up and enjoy the native binalot adobo lunch prepared by the local community.
When everyone was fully rested and satiated by the delicious lunch, everyone was asked to share their own experiences about the activity. One of the volunteers shared that it was her birthday and that she felt so fulfilled because it is a one of a kind experience. She promised to do more environmental activities on a regular basis. Certificates were then awarded to the volunteers which concluded the activity.
