FEED proudly recognizes the unwavering commitment of Marvz Conti, Founder of Studio Habíl –  a vital partner in our environmental restoration and conservation efforts. His dedication has been instrumental in advancing the Ridge to Reef program, a cornerstone of FEED’s mission that embraces a holistic approach to safeguarding the Philippines’ upland forests, coastal ecosystems, and urban areas.

On January 28, 2025, our partnership marked another milestone with the planting of 166 native Philippine trees—83 Balitbitan and 83 Tu-i—at the Laguna-Quezon Land Grant. These native species, uniquely adapted to the local environment, play a critical role in restoring biodiversity, stabilizing soil, and improving watershed health. Their resilience to local conditions allows them to thrive naturally, supporting endemic wildlife and maintaining ecological balance. By choosing native species, we also contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change and preserving the Philippines’ rich natural heritage.

The Ridge to Reef program addresses the interconnectedness of upland and coastal ecosystems. Reforestation in mountainous areas reduces erosion, minimizes flooding, and ensures a steady water supply downstream. Coastal restoration, especially through mangrove planting, protects communities from storm surges, curbs coastal erosion, and serves as nurseries for marine life. These initiatives not only restore ecosystems but also empower local communities through training and alternative livelihood opportunities, encouraging long-term stewardship of the environment.

Urban gardening, as an extension of the Ridge to Reef philosophy, further supports this integrated approach by promoting food security, enhancing green spaces, and reducing the urban heat island effect. It connects people to nature even in densely populated areas, fosters environmental awareness, and contributes to local biodiversity and climate resilience.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Marvz Conti for his active involvement and support. Special thanks also go to the dedicated forest guards for planting and maintaining the seedlings, and to Forester Rey Lorida and Ms. Rose Bocado for their expert guidance and leadership.
