FEED’s Latest Ambassador Celso Jucutan Plants More Trees to Protect our Waters

23 March 2018, San Juan, La Union. Celso Jucutan, a Lecturer in Environmental Sciences at FEED’s Living Legacy partner, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, North La Union Campus (DMMMSU NLUC), shares: “I love water and I will continue to nurture trees including mangroves! We will never live without water, so save it while we still can. Plant more trees to have more water. Happy World Water Day!”

Though Celso was nominated by the FEED Board to become a FEED Ambassador last November 2017, it was only today on World Water Day that both Celso and FEED were able to draft an article announcing his Ambassadorship as an environmental steward working to deepen, broaden and strengthen our collective efforts towards biodiversity conservation and disaster risk reduction through a number of community-based planting interventions, mainly mangroves to begin with, and the designed inclusion of other saline species along La Union’s rivers and coastlines.

It is through Celso and LINK that FEED is also able to sponsor local fishermen in the production of mangrove cuttings, saplings and seedlings as a nursery source for our continued coastal plantings in the region.

Celso is also Co-founder at Lupon ng mag Indibidwal na Nangangalaga sa Kalikasan (LINK), an active local volunteer community organization based in La Union, which regularly hosts environmental events for the public at large. LINK is also a FEED Living Legacy Partner since 2016.  He organised the Young Earthsavers’ Society (DMMMSU NLUC and is Secretary at Isalbar iii Pintas ti La Union, a Facebook community group dedicated to environmental preservation in La Union. Probably one of the most active, dedicated and committed environmentalists in the region, Celso has held office at the City Government of San Fernando, La Union and at the  LGU-City of San Fernando, La Union.

Celso calls himself an “Environmentalist, youth development advocate, gardener, good governance advocate and nation builder”, but to us at FEED he is much more than that, he is an authentic leader and one of our much needed Earth Protectors, spending his every  moment contemplating AND, more importantly, acting on how to save our people and planet for everyone’s prosperity.
