Greetings of Peace. Assumption Actions Awareness for Education & Environment

27 September 2017, Assumption College, San Lorenzo. “Greetings of Peace!” That’s how the email arrived in FEED’s mailbox. “One of the main pillars of the Assumption Education is SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. As members of the COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT COMMITTEE (C.I.C.), we aim to provide the students of Assumption College an avenue where they can take the first step towards social awareness – being mindful of the social realities and issues confronting society, and later on being responsive by thinking ways to act on it. Thus, one of the steps to develop this awareness is by inviting speakers and different organizations to promote their advocacies, mission & vision”.

In line with this, on September 27th, Assumption held the “KAPIHAN FORUM” (Tag. “Cafe Forum“) entitled, “EXULTET TERRA” (Lat. for “Let the Earth be Glad“). The forum focused on climate change and mining, with guest speaker Hon. Regina Paz Lopez, ex-Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

As a part of the program, FEED and other non-proft/NGOs and partners were invited to promote their advocacies and provide Assumption students a chance to become volunteers of a specific cause. “Many  students underestimate the contributions they can make in society and the change they can do by simply volunteering for an organization. At the same time, the students are called to show their support for the several advocacies of the organizations in the Philippines”.

FEED Ambassadors Bogs & Rejine Balangat, Founders of Mondo Project, FEED’s merchandise partner, manned the FEED & Mondo Project booth, showcasing their Tree Shirts (one tree planted per shirt purchase) and FEED’s indigenous Philippine forest trees and local passion fruit seedlings on sale.

Bogs also delivered the 5 minutes presentation about FEED, after which Sister Mary Ignatius G. Vedua, r.a. Principal and Ms Girlie V. Florendo, Head of the Center for Social Involvement of Assumption College San Lorenzo awarded a Certificate of Appreciation along with PHP5000 worth of donations collected from the audience of students, faculty and friends to the FEED scholarship fund.

Thank you Assumption College San Lorenzo eco-warriors, may your civic causes continue raise awareness and action for a better Philippines!

Let the Earth Be Glad at Assumption College Makati

FEED Ambassador & Co-Founder of Mondo Project

Last 27 September 2017, Mondo Project participated in Assumption College’s Kapihan Forum entitled, “Exultet Terra” (Let the Earth be Glad). This forum focused on raising the students’ awareness on the current condition of the environment and the challenges it faces. It also tackled the opportunities and ways to contribute and help save Mother Earth.

Students’ eyes were caught by the variety of shirts displayed in the booth as well as the seedlings that they (students and faculty members) can purchase. Curiosity of students increased whenever they learn that for every purchase of a shirt, one tree will be planted.

They were also encouraged to visit Mondo Project’s website to be able to choose from more designs. Moreover, Seedlings such as Lilies, Ilang-Ilang, and Passion Fruits were also sold during the event.

“I went back to ask money from my mom. I really want to buy a shirt ‘coz I know that it will be able to plant a tree. I’m excited and will invite my friends to also buy.” explained by one of the students.

Bogs Balangat was also able to share his advocacy to high school students during a talk and was able to get their interests by telling the story of Mondo Project and how they were able to get the support of Fostering Education & Environment for Development (FEED Inc.). He explained the reasons why Mondo Project was created and the goals they are looking at years from now. He also added the help and support FEED Inc. has been sharing to them and how it was helpful in growing the social enterprise.

“It is a good avenue for us to inspire the students and motivate them to help the environment. We are excited for them, we can already imagine how they will create a better future in the years ahead” said by Bogs Balangat.

About Assumption College San Lorenzo

Mission.
“Women of faith, women of action”. An innovative Catholic college, committed to excellent education forming women servant leaders for social transformation.

Vision.  Inspired by St. Marie Eugenie, we passionately form persons and communities of faith and action through a transformative education that nurtures faith and spirituality, pursues academic excellence for service and instills social responsibility, thus forging “character for life and life for God”.

Their Center for Social Concern (CSC) was established in 1975 as a center for Assumption students seeking a more meaningful and relevant education.

It is an alternative response to the prevailing conditions existing in Philippine society. As a response, the Center wishes to share with the students a faith in Christ, a hope for the future and a love for the people. Because of this, the Center makes a preferential option for the poor – an option made and shared with them by immersing ourselves in their situation, and in the process, affirming a commitment to social transformation.

Together we teach and are taught that the call to active involvement is not only to learn to be seriously attentive to the social realities of today, but also the blending of vision, principles and courage in a personal commitment to lead and to serve.
