2015 UPLB’s Metering Instruments Capture Real-Time Water & Weather Data for the First Time at Baroro Watershed

19 June 2015, San Fernando, La Union. Under the Integrated Baroro Watershed Management Project, the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) conducted an ocular inspection on May 23, 2014 in La Union province and ascertained the following sites as the most feasible places where the latest metering instruments would be installed as water and weather metering stations:

  1. Bumbuneg Bridge – Automated Water Level System (AWLS)
  2. Municipal Hall – Automated Weather System (AWS)
  3. Suspension Bridge – Automated Water Level System and Automated Weather System

The UPLB team travelled to San Fernando, La Union on June 19, 2015, to purchase construction materials needed for the installation of the AWLS and AWS instruments between June 20 to 23, 2015.

Weather Underground

Real-time (“live”) measurements from these systems are remotely available via Weather Underground or “Wunderground” sites (also accessible via mobile applications), which provide local & long range weather forecasts, weather reports, maps & tropical weather conditions for locations worldwide. Two of these sites are accessible below:

Community Backed by Science

Since 1993, Wunderground has developed  meaningful weather data products that communities, meteorologists and the public at large can access from around the globe. As one of the Internet’s 1st weather services, the information available to every person on this planet. With 100,000+ members sending real-time data from even personal weather stations, Wunderground provides extensive data that makes forecasting more accessible and accurate:

“The vast amount of weather data we collect only becomes meaningful when combined with the scientific expertise that our team of meteorologists provide. Our proprietary forecast model leverages our personal weather station community to provide the most reliable and localized forecasts available. Our meteorologists and climatologists also provide valuable insight into the science behind the data and the relationship between weather and climate change.” -Wunderground
